Tryout Info

Tryouts "Player Evaluations" are only necessary for AAA, Majors and Junior Leagues, Minors are not involved in tryouts. All players in these leagues with accepted registrations will be placed on a team. Tryouts are player evaluations where players go through a series of basic baseball skills and coaches evaluate these skills. This helps coaches build their team based on needs. After the tryouts, players are drafted on to teams by the coaches. All players registered will be placed on a team.

What are tryouts?

•
EBLL conducts tryouts each year for new players to the league and players moving up in age to the next age division. These are not tryouts in the sense that players are cut - the purpose is for skills evaluation so that managers (head coaches) have a basis for drafting players to teams. The purpose of the draft is to spread the talent with the intent of making the league more balanced and competitive. Every player who attends tryouts will be drafted to a team unless they are on "waiting list" status. Players on the waiting list will only be placed on a team if someone withdraws in their age division. Who gets drafted where is confidential and is not communicated by managers to any player.
•
During tryouts, we have a large number of players to get through a series of drill stations in a relatively short period of time. Each coach needs to look at each player so it is only possible to divide the players by draft pool (AL/NL for Majors and AAA and one pool for Juniors). Several years ago, we moved these tryouts to Brookfield Indoor Soccer park so that players (and coaches) would be warmer during the process. This limits the amount of field time that is available for each tryout session.
•
Players and parents should not be concerened about the number of swings during the batting or the number of grounders during that drill. coaches understand that players are rusty and frankly do not pay much attention to how many the player hit or fielded. Coaches are looking at how a player sets up, how they move, how they run, how they throw, and their bat speed - id really does not matter beyond that. Most coaches can look at 3 swings and two grounders and have a very accurate impression of ability.
•
Players should be contacted by coaches within 1 week of tryouts to let them know which team they are on for the season.
